Why ‘Paper Street’?
People ask us about the meaning behind our name all the time. I think it’s such a cool thing that I love to share it! We originally came up with the name because we liked the way it sounded. We were curious if there actually was a Paper Street anywhere, and we wondered where it was if it did exist. What we found was quite interesting- there is no actual Paper Street anywhere!
Apparently, when city planners are drawing out maps of new cities or city expansions all of the streets are “Paper Street”. As the new roads get built, each street gets a new dedicated name as it comes to life. So Paper Streets literally only exist on paper!! Cool huh?
We thought that was inspiring enough to name our business after, and we enjoy telling the story every time someone asks.
We’re a shop born out of love- a love of learning about all things old. When we set out to decorate our house we knew we wanted something ‘different’. We shopped around to mix and match unique pieces for our home- while we really love antique pieces with history it was difficult to find things that were ‘cool’ enough for our home and that would blend in with our style.
We know there are many people out there with great taste who can appreciate the quality and history behind antiques but also want to integrate them with modern pieces as well, and that’s what we specialize in. Whether it’s a key piece of furniture you’re looking for or just the accessories that will make your room ‘pop’, we’re here to help!
We try to provide as much information as possible about the pieces that we sell so that you can learn about and appreciate them. It makes us happy to help people on their decorating mission, and we’re always in search of bargains! We can give you a great deal (shop around…our prices are VERY competitive!), and you can get a beautiful piece for your home that will become a family heirloom.
When it comes to matching furniture and accessories for your home, our theory is ‘surround yourself with things you love…it will all work out in the end’. If you pick out pieces that call to you you will ultimately love the room that you put together.
We hope to see you @ PSM soon!
